This blog was launched on 10/18/07 with daily posts.
The entry dates got a little screwy the first few days. Pastronomy was entered on 10/18/07, but somehow got recorded as 10/19/07, and the posts continued to be 1 day off until 10/24/07, when both Disingenius & Leperchaun were posted. Part of me wants to fix the dates, but now that the search engines have indexed the posts with their original dates in the URL, I’d hate to break the links.
At the time I started, I believed I had figured out how to “post-date” an entry so I could bulk-create words every week and upload them in advance, but apparently there was a bit of a learning curve.
Regardless, I have sustained this blog with daily posts on a leap year, for a total of 366.
When I started, I wasn’t sure if I could sustain it for an entire year, but enjoyed the challenge of not knowing how I was going to do it & I had a desire not to give up. Hell, if the Simpsons can have an original couch gag in the intro to every episode, I should be able to create a new word every day. Although The Simpsons has a writing staff working on it, and with Dougtionary, it’s just me… therefore, I must be more creative than the Simpsons. (Insert evil “Mr. Burns-ish” laugh).
The challenge fosters creativity, especially when it gets harder to create words, involving a bit more brain power that stretches beyond the more obvious word bastardizations.
For the next year, I considered 5 posts a week on weekdays, but why should I give myself a break or make it easier? My goal is one more year of daily posts.
Enjoy,
–Doug
