About

Dougtionary.com
How I define the world based on my use (or misuse) of the English language.

How It All Began
So I’m sitting in front of my Mac, not working, when one of the spirits appeared on my shoulder (not sure if it’s the devil or angel, it’s hard to tell sometimes). The spirit said, “I’ll bet you can’t make up a new word every day for the next year.” That sounds like a good challenge. I replied, “Oh, yes I can! Take that Webster!” (the dictionary, not the tiny little black man).

365 entries, that seems doable…

This just in! 2008 is a leap year! Oh crap. The Gregorian claendar has just thrown down the gauntlet and taunted me with a calendrical bitch slap.

Okay, fine. It’s 366 entries. I just got served by Webster.

It’s on!

Inspired by:

  • Urban Dictionary
  • Articles on the new words added to the dictionary every year
  • The desire to upstage Webster
  • John Vorhaus
  • The Washington Post Mensa Invitational. Whether real or hoax, it inspired me none-the-less.

Do you make up all the words or do you take suggestions?

Sorry for the insanely long delay, I missed your comment in the approval section.

For the most part, I make up all the words, although on occasion I take suggestions from friends and readers of the blog. Feel free to submit suggestions if you have them. Though if they’re commonly used slang that you can find in Urban Dictionary, I don’t post them on my site.
